Scottish & Southern Energy

Scottish & Southern Energy, one of the UK's largest energy companies, ordered the Smith Edison for use in its fleet of 6,000 commercial vehicles.

Compared to the emissions from a typical diesel van, the new electric van will save an estimated minimum of 5,000kg of CO2 per year - the equivalent of the annual CO2 footprint of a small UK household.

As the UK's leading generator of renewable energy, Scottish and Southern Energy will be recharging the van using clean, renewable electricity, ensuring the vehicle is truly carbon neutral.

Scottish and Southern Energy is committed to finding more sustainable ways to operate its business. A truly electric commercial vehicle presents a real opportunity for us and we are delighted to be introducing the world's first example of such a vehicle into our fleet. We operate several hundred Transit-class vans, so the potential impact this cleaner, greener technology could have is substantial.
