Smith Electric Vehicles are 100% battery powered, so are fuelled by recharging rather than re-fuelling at a petrol station. Recharging is a simple process which involves plugging the vehicle into a standard UK power source.
The Newton model requires a three phase power supply and can either be charged fully overnight, which takes 8-10 hours, or the battery can be 'topped-up' when required. On board chargers allow for 'top-ups' while the vehicle is out on the road.
The Ampere and Edison can be recharged from a conventional mains electric source, but benefit from a greatly reduced charge time when supplied with three phase power.
